Pressure Regulators

Pressure regulator is required anytime the home is hooked up to city water.

You may notice your pressure regulator is failing if you experience low water pressure or, conversely, if you get a sudden rush of water when you turn on a faucet in the morning. Those are typically your two telltale signs that pressure PRV is going bad. Sometimes, you might also hear a humming or whining noise in the home when water is running.

Maintenance for Pressure Regulators

There isn’t much you can do to extend the life of a pressure regulator. If you go with a quality regulator from the start, you’re going to get a great life out of it.

On average, if we go with a dual chamber, all brass PRV, you’re going to get a service life between 12 and 15 years. Some of them last longer. We have been into homes, they are 25 years old and still working properly!

However, if you go in with a plastic rubber top PRV, it can fail as early as two years in. Investing in a high-quality unit from the start will save you money in the long run.
